Executive Summary: Located in Miami-Dade County someone hacked into the online absentee ballot request site and attempted to request 2500 absentee ballots during the 2012 Primary Elections. This is the first known attack and demonstrates the relaxed security when it comes to voting. The company was hired by the county to monitor the Florida registration server and became suspected in this controversy. The attack was found because the attackers were using IP addresses from other countries, and the requests were coming in faster than the data could be input.

Analysis: Even though this attack has been thwarted there are still concerns over the security of voter's registration monitoring. The company's security could not detect the hack at all which means they were unable to properly monitor the system in the first place. Voters were not required to enter a username or password, which allowed the breach occur. Requiring the voters to enter passwords on a secure site would have thwarted the attack in the beginning rather than putting an entire election in risk of fraudulent claims. Could you even imagine the uproar the country would go into if the president were elected due to fraud rather than an honest matter?
